Satsuki Eda

Satsuki Eda (Japanese江 田 五月, Eda Satsuki, May 22nd, 1941 in Nagaoka, Aiden, Joto -gun (now Nagaoka, Naka -ku, Okayama ), Okayama Prefecture) is a Japanese politician of the Democratic Party (Kan - group ), former Justice and Environment Minister and President of the Japanese house of Lords.

Eda, the son of the deputy Saburō Eda, studied at the Law Faculty of the University of Tokyo and was then assistant judge ( hanjiho ) at the district courts Tokyo, Chiba and Yokohama. In 1977 he took over the chairmanship of the Shakai Shimin Rengo ( " Socialist Civic Union " ), which his father after his resignation from the Socialist Party of Japan ( SPJ ) was founded. As a candidate of the "Citizens Federal " he established in 1977, elected to the Upper House in the national constituency in the election. 1983 Eda 1 was selected for the fünfmandatigen constituency Okayama to the House, where he served until 1996. 1985 took over the party presidency of the Eda Shakai Minshu Rengo ( " Social Democratic Federation " ), in 1978 from the merger of his party with the Shakai Club ( " Socialist Club " ) by Hideo Den ( formerly SPJ ) had emerged. 1993-1994 Eda was Minister of State for Science and Technology in the Cabinet of Morihiro Hosokawa. Eda was elected in 1998 as the candidate of the Democratic Party for the Okayama Prefecture again in the House of Lords confirmed in 2004 and 2010. After his party a majority of seats obtained in the Upper House elections in 2007, he was elected as president on August 7, the House of Lords. Eda was not only the first member of his party on this post, but since 1956 the first President of the Upper House, was not a member of the Liberal Democratic Party.

2011 appointed Prime Minister Naoto Kan Eda as Minister of Justice in his reorganized cabinet, in June, he also took over the Ministry of Environment. Both a post he held until the appointment of the Cabinet Noda held on 2 September 2011.
