Sau Reservoir
The Pantà de Sau or Embassament de Sau ( Spanish Pantano de Sau or Embalse de Sau ) is a reservoir of the river Ter in the province of Barcelona, in the comarca of Osona.
The reservoir was 1962 completed and represents a significant source of water supply in Catalonia dar. Due to the dam construction the residents of places Sant Romà de Sau, Sant Pere de Castanyadell, Santa Maria de Vilanova had, Sant Andreu Bancells i Sant Martí de Quero in the newly created Location Vilanova de Sau be resettled.
The local church Sant Romà de Sau from the 10th century has survived. The top of the church extends out to about two meters even with complete filling of the reservoir. In dry years such as 2005, the water level can drop to the extent that the Church fully reappears.
The lake is surrounded by steep mountains with impressive rock formations. In the north these are the Cingles de Tavertet. The massive rock that is named after the village Tavertet on the massif, situated at an altitude of 869 msnm and thus 600 meters above the reservoir, which is located on 260 meters altitude. The rocks that exist in the lower range of red and in the upper part of gray stone, falling from nearly vertical. At the end of a file, a single ledge, the Puig de la Forca is with a height of 750.55 meters.
To the east rises behind the dam on the mountain Montduis with a height of 930 meters. Below this mountain is located downstream of the next reservoir of the Ter, the Pantà de Susqueda. On the west bank is the Parador de Sau, on a steep hillside with spectacular views over the lake. Further west is the former Benedictine monastery from the 11th century Sant Pere de Casserres. To the south lie fertile valleys around the town of Vilanova de Sau. Southeast is a group of mountains to the Turo de Vaig Verd, which has a height of 1,187 meters.
Lakeside is the seat of the Nauticclubs of Vic, about 17 km from the county seat. The lake is, especially on weekends, local shopping destination for anglers, paddlers and picnic visitors. At the height of the church of Sant Romà de Sau is a public car park.
