Sauvain

Sauvain is a commune of 393 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Loire department in the Rhône -Alpes; it belongs to the administrative district Montbrison and the canton of Saint -Georges -en- Couzan.

Geography

The community is located about 20 kilometers northwest of Montbrison, on the eastern flank of the mountain range Monts du Forez. The municipal area of the peaks Pierre sur Haute is (1631 m), the highest point of the department. Here is the military radio station Pierre sur Haute.

Neighboring communities of Sauvain are:

  • Chalmazel in the north- west and north,
  • Saint -Georges -en- Couzan in the Northeast,
  • Saint -Bonnet -en- Courreau the southeast and south, as well as
  • Job in the Southwest.

Job already belongs to the neighboring department of Puy -de- Dôme in the Auvergne region.

The municipal seat is located in the extreme east of the municipality. On the heights of the Monts du Forez arise many small streams, which are all collected from the north running river Lignon and drained by the Loire.
