Saxe-Coburg-Eisenach

Saxe-Coburg -Eisenach was a only a short time (1572-1596 and 1633-1638) existing Duchy within the Holy Roman Empire, whose territories lay partly in the present state of Bavaria and partly in Thuringia.

History

The duchy was created by the Erfurt division in 1572, with the were separated in implementing the decisions of the Diet of Speyer of 1570 Coburg and Eisenach from the Duchy of Saxe -Weimar, and their two sons Johann Frederick II in the Middle, John Casimir and Johann Ernst as a possession was passed.

However, since the two princes were minors at the time, the country was first ruled by a regency, which was led by Elector August of Saxony.

1586 the guardianship and regency was abolished, and Johann Casimir and Johann Ernst appeared together dominion over the duchy to. However, Johann Ernst retired soon to be a hunting lodge in Marksuhl back and abandoned in 1590 for five years all the way to its participation in the government of the country. After the end of this time, the two brothers agreed on a division of the state. Johann Casimir kept Saxe-Coburg, while Johann Ernst received Saxe- Eisenach. Since Johann Casimir died childless in 1633, Johann Ernst inherited his possessions, again Coburg and Eisenach were united in the short term. But since Johann Ernst died childless in 1638, thus ending the line of the Dukes of Saxe- Coburg -Eisenach again, the country was divided between the other two then existing lines Ernestine of Saxe-Weimar and Saxe-Altenburg.

Saxe-Weimar and Saxe-Coburg should never again belong to a common state.
