Saxon Axis

The Saxon axis (Polish OS Saska ) is a partially still existing baroque urban planning system in Warsaw from the early 18th century, which runs in an east - west direction.

She was the strong one in 1700 by the Polish King August II - during the Saxon period - built. The Saxon axis ran from the Krakow suburb in western direction over the former Saxon Square (now Pilsudski Square), the former Saxon Palace, the Saxon Garden, the west gate of the park, the no longer existing marketplace in Wielopolska ( Plac Za Żelazną brama ) up to the barracks of the mounted royal guard in today's Wola district. After rotation of the Lubomirski Palace in 1969, the axis ends in the West today with him. The Saxon axis transverse to a different axis, the older Warsaw Royal Route, which starting from the north leads to the Krakow suburb to the south.
