Saxon Steam Railway Company
The Saxon Steam Railroad Company, Inc. ( SDG) is a railway infrastructure company and a rail transport company based in Annaberg -Buchholz, Saxony. The Company is the operator of narrow gauge railways Radebeul Ost - Radeburg, Freital -Hainsberg -resort Kipsdorf and Cranzahl - Oberwiesenthal. The SDG is a subsidiary of Regional Transportation Erzgebirge GmbH ( RVE ) and the traffic Oberelbe (VVO ). It was formed in 2007 from the former BVO Bahn.
History
The BVO Bahn GmbH was founded in 1998 as a subsidiary of the BVO traffic Erzgebirge GmbH ( BVO ), when the German Bahn AG wanted to separate from the narrow- Fichtelbergbahn of Cranzahl to Oberwiesenthal. On May 4, 1998, this route was taken. In order to attract more customers for the hitherto unprofitable railway, the daily operation of steam locomotives should be primarily aimed at the tourist demand. First, an extension to the nearby Annaberg was planned. This project could not be realized, however, for financial reasons.
Since 2004, SDG also operates the Lößnitzgrundbahn from Radebeul to Radeburg. According to the conclusions of the traffic Oberelbe (VVO ) on 4 June 2007, the Weißeritzkreis acquired the track and the SDG takes over the operation. At the same time, the VVO acquired a 35 % interest in the SDG because the Chemnitz Regional Council insisted that restrict the activities of local companies in the field of interests. The consequent renaming of BVO Bahn in Saxon Steam Railway Company was May 9, 2007.
