Sázava

The Sázava ( / sa ː zava /, German Sasau or Sázava ) is an orographic right tributary of the Vltava River. You drained part of the Bohemian- Moravian Highlands and the northern region of Středočeská pahorkatina. The catchment area is 4350 square kilometers, the length of the river 218.2 km, of which 208.3 kilometers can be traveled by recreational craft.

Course

It rises east of Nová Huť in the Zdarske Hills ( Saarer mountains ) on the northeastern slope of the mountain Šindelný Vrch, at the south-western side and the river Svratka begins. Erroneously, many a time, the source of the Stržský creek east of Cikháj (position ) 49.63944215.989444740 and the pond Velké Dářko as the source. In the ruins of the monastery Ostrov Davle, south of Prague, Sázava flows into the Vltava.

The Sasau is a favorite among boaters flow, even when the water level is quite low in the summer. Between Zdar nad Sázavou and Přibyslav it flows in a strong gradient with rapids through a deep valley. Behind Přibyslav the valley and the river opens flows in a meandering river bed towards Havlíčkův Brod. This landscape picture with which the water sports to Svetla nad Sázavou. Here the valley narrows and offers a varied journey with many rapids. The whitewater section named Stvořidla is one of the most popular destinations for water sports in the Czech Republic and a nature reserve. After a few kilometers of the transition in a mean flow velocity with some weirs and excessive current speed.

From Týnec nad Vltavou and Krhanice the Sázava again flows through a deep valley with steep slopes, where, due to re- form through rocky river bed rapids. Next it flows through recreational areas for nature lovers. After Pikovice the river calmed down and flows into the reservoir of the dam Vranská.
