SC Telstar

Telstar is a Dutch football club from the Velsener district in North Holland IJmuiden, who plays in the second division, called the Eerste Divisie. The club was founded in 1963 as Telstar and was called between 2001 and 2008 Stormvogels Telstar. From 1964 to 1978, the club played in the first Dutch league, the Eredivisie.

The club was in 1963 from a merger of the professional football departments of IJ.VV Storm Bird ( IJmuidensche Voetbal Vereeniging Storm Bird ) from IJmuiden and VSV ( Velseroorder Sport Vereniging ) from the Velsener district Velserbroek forth and was named after the Telstar communications satellite. From 2001 to 2008 the club changed its name in the meantime as Stormvogels Telstar. The predecessor VVV won the 1938 Dutch Cup with a 4-1 victory in the final against AGOVV Apeldoorn.

Telstar rose in 1964, a year after the merger as the second in the second division in the highest Dutch league, the Eredivisie. The best places to relegation in 1978 consisted of the sixth rank of 1974 and seventh place in the following season. The best finish in the second division, called the Eerste Divisie, has since been the fourth place in 1982.

The stadium of the club is the 3250 -seat end Sportpark Schoonenberg, which was named after a sponsor TATA Steel Stadion 2009.
