Scan conversion

The colloquial term signal converter or english scan converter called a converter used in video technology that digitizes an incoming video signal between stores and outputs again in a different format. Often used for a scan converter is to convert from VGA to a composite signal, to process it into image mixers, which are not equipped with VGA inputs.

A distinction is made between Upconvertern that scale a signal to a higher resolution (eg PAL to XGA ) and Down converters, which reduce the resolution ( eg XGA to PAL).

Due to the principle meets a scan converter also functions as a timebase corrector.
