Sceau-Saint-Angel

Sceau -Saint- Angel, Occitan verse Ceus Sent Angeu, is a commune with 127 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the north of the Dordogne in the Aquitaine region. It belongs to the district Nontron and Canton Nontron. It also forms part of the Périgord -Limousin Regional Natural Park.

Etymology

Saint-Angel Sent Angeu or is derived from the Holy Angelus. The term Sceau is a French contraction of Occitan verse (after, back ) Ceus, where Ceus probably originated from the Latin Celli ( monastic cells ).

Geography

Sceau -Saint- Angel is scarce six kilometers (direct distance ) south-southeast of Nontron and four kilometers west-southwest of Saint- Pardoux- la -Rivière. Périgueux is 33 kilometers away.

  • La Chapelle- Montmoreu in the southwest
  • Saint-Front- sur- Nizonne in the West

The municipal area of Sceau - Saint-Angel includes the following hamlets, farmsteads and a castle:

Argentine, Battelière, Beauvoir, Bellegarde, Brissoneau, Bro (u ) illac, Château de l' Age, Courrière, Garreloup, Jayac, La Croix de Nadaillac, La Grésille, La Pouyade, Le Grand macerate, Le Petit macerate, Moreliere, Pouyaud, Puymezier, Saint-Angel, Sarelière, Sceau and Tourbanier.

At the hamlet Moreliere springs the flowing westward Nizonne. The source of draining to the southwest Boulou is located in the immediate vicinity of Saint-Angel. A small stream drains the north- east of the village in the direction of the Dronne ( to the east ). The watershed between Nizonne and Boulou on the one hand and on the other hand Dronne runs approximately through the middle of the municipality. The north western boundary forms the watershed between Bandiat and Dronne.

The topographically lowest point of the municipality is located 157 meters above the sea at Bro (u ) illac in the Northeast, the highest point at 262 meters at Brissoneau in the northwest.

The predominant part of the municipality of Sceau - Saint-Angel is occupied by extensive forests.

Geology

The north-east of the township is from Lias ( Pliensbachian - gray-blue dolomite ) of limestones ( bioclastic limestone, cryptocrystalline limestones and Oolithkalke ) underlain Dogger ( Bajocian and Bathonian ) and lowermost Malm ( Oxfordian ). The Dogger may be places also recrystallized. The headwaters of the Nizonne and Boulou are lined by flat-lying, Upper Cretaceous strata of the Ligériens. Immediately below Sceau also occurs Cenomanian. Pleistocene alluvium and colluvium (gravel and sand ) above or obscure then the greater part of its territory. For the Northeast section several Southeast striking faults are suspected, which should be parallel to the east -lying fault of Le Puy roughly at which the crystalline Variscan basement ( here paragneiss ) was lifted over the sediments of the Aquitaine basin. The presence of recrystallized Doggers can also connect to disturbances.

History

Oldest Culture witness in Sceau -Saint- fishing is the Romanesque church of Saint-Angel, but which has been structurally altered in the 18th century. From the 14th century comes the Gothic chapel of La Pouyade.

In 1868, renamed itself the church, the hitherto Saint-Angel said, in Sceau - Saint-Angel to ( the district Sceau is much more significant than Saint- Angel).

Transport links

Through the western part of the municipality of Sceau - Saint-Angel D 675 runs in a southerly direction from Nontron by Brantome. Furthermore, the D 3 crosses of Nontron to Villars in southeast; of their branches off a local road which runs through the center Sceau and then continues to Saint - Front -la -Rivière. The center also crosses an up coming from Saint- Pardoux municipal road which then produces a cross connection to the D 675. Of the latter, there is a local road junction at Garreloup to Saint -Angel and on to Quinsac.

Due to the northern part of the municipality once led the now disused railway line from Nontron after Thiviers.
