Schacht-Audorf

Schacht-Audorf is a municipality in the district of Rendsburg -Eckernförde in Schleswig -Holstein.

Geography and transport

Schacht-Audorf lies on the south bank of the North Sea-Baltic Canal and is adjacent to Rendsburg. The municipal area of Schacht-Audorf includes the western part of the strait lying between Borgstedter and North Sea-Baltic Canal Rader island. The Rader island is accessible from the mainland only on the town Borgstedt. South of the town is the Schülldorfer lake.

History

Archaeological finds prove a Stone Age settlement of the township.

The district shaft was first mentioned in 1330 as ducts, Audorf ten years later than Ovdorpe. Until the construction of the North Sea-Baltic Canal, the places were dominated by agriculture.

After settlement of the ironworks Holstein right on the canal in 1900, the town was growing rapidly because many of the workers lived here in shaft Audorf. Later, other industrial enterprises settled in the areas of stone and wood processing in the community, and the only factory in Germany, which produced gongs. Since the Second World War is the Krögerwerft, which was originally located in Warnemünde and since the mid- 1980s, is part of the Bremen Lürssen Group, based in Schacht-Audorf. Being very impressed the congregation, in the municipal crest a ship shell is mapped to a slipway.

On 1 January 2007, the then municipality and has partnered with the communities of the former Office Osterronfeld to the Official Eider channel.

Policy

Of the 17 seats in the municipal council, the SPD has since the local elections 2008 nine seats, the CDU and six voters Community ASW two seats.

Economy

The Lürssen shipyard is the largest employer in the community, there is still the FOS Messtechnik GmbH and several retail companies and service companies. The Drum Manufacturers Paiste in shaft Audorf its branch headquarters.

Personalities

Brunhild Wendel (1923-2009), Mayor shaft Audorfs 1966-1993, is the community since 2008 honorary citizen.
