Schäftlarn

Schaeftlarn is a municipality located on the River Isar with the districts Ebenshausen, Hohenschäftlarn, Schäftlarn, Neufahrn and cell in the Upper Bavarian district of Munich.

Coat of arms

Description: In blue a silver ship with two beveled silver oars, floating above a sechsstrahliger silver star.

History: The original Klosterwappen with Kahn, two oars and star goes back to a mid-15th century arisen, incorrect interpretation of the name Schaeftlarn, namely a derivative of the Greek word scapha = Boot. They tied it to the old crossing point on the river Isar next to the monastery.

For the first time the coat of arms appears in the year 1462 without a star, probably represents a later decorative ingredient. The old age is compared with the pomp recent times confirmed by the simplicity of the subject. The municipal coat of arms is one of the oldest in Bavaria.

History

To 762 the monastery was Schaeftlarn by Waltrich, one of Freising Domkleriker, founded as a Benedictine monastery. As of 1140, the monastery belonged to the Order of the Premonstratensian. The place Hohenschäftlarn was first mentioned in 778, he was as closed Hofmark to the monastery. The monastery complex was from 1702 to 1760, the Church of St. George 1729/30 the last time rebuilt to Hohenschäftlarn. Like all Bavarian monasteries Schaeftlarn was dissolved by secularization. The buildings were sold, including a stoneware factory, a brewery and a mineral bath were operated here. Schaeftlarn was in the course of administrative reform in Bavaria in 1818 an independent political community. 1866 donated the former King Ludwig I of Bavaria as a Benedictine monastery, the new and promoted the establishment of a school. The famous convent school with boarding school founded the Benedictine Schäftlarn 1884. In 1873 the church name was officially changed to Hohenschäftlarn Schaeftlarn. 1910 Schaeftlarn was again raised to the abbey. Cell is attested around 1160, but certainly much older. Ebenshausen appears in records at the earliest in 1130 under the name Emmen Husen. Neufahrn is first mentioned in 1140 ( earlier data are unsure ).

  • The church of the monastery Schaeftlarn is a jewel of Rococo. 1733-1740 was François de Cuvilliés. a new building begun. 1751-1760 the construction of Johann Georg Gunetzrhainer and Johann Michael Fischer has been completed. 1754-1756 painted and stuccoed Johann Baptist Zimmermann the church. 1756-1764 presented Johann Baptist Straub, the altars and the pulpit. An ongoing multi-year general renovation was completed in July 2011.
