Origin of the name
A first mention of the mountain was made in 1819 as Schänzlespitz in Uraufnahmeblatt (SW 034-37 ) of the Bavarian State Survey Office. The name of the mountain derives from a form of border fortification of the hill. Such was built between Schänzlespitze and Schänzlekopf in the course of disputes.
Prior to the mountains probably Alpatinspitzen, Weilandseck or Berengachtspitzen had told.
