Schedulix

Schedulix is an open source software tool for IT process automation ( job scheduling ), which was developed by the company independIT Integrative Technologies GmbH.

' independIT ' is a member of the Open Source Business Alliance.

Function

Schedulix allows the definition, execution, monitoring and control of hierarchically organized flow definitions of operating system processes in distributed, heterogeneous environments. Dependency definitions enable to ensure the correct execution order of the processes. The schedulix resource management seeks to determine the place of execution processes, the load control and distribution, as well as the synchronization independently -started processes.

Core of schedulix is a fully implementer in Java server process which manages all of the definitions and process state information in an RDBMS via JDBC. Job Server agents on the to be automated computers connect to this server and perform at the direction of processes and log the exit code of these processes to the scheduling server back.

The administration and operation of schedulix via command-line tools or a graphical web interface, which was developed based on Zope. All functions of schedulix can be controlled via APIs.

The commercial version of schedulix is the BICsuite enterprise job scheduling system. This provides an enhanced rights management, import and export functions, as well as a number of features that facilitate the operation in very large environments.

Fields of application

Schedulix should be used wherever operating system processes can be automated should be brought to execution. Regardless of the system size and number of processes to be automated, the use of schedulix to a more stable IT operations and reduces the cost of implementation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of IT processes.

Portability

Schedulix can with little effort is also available on other POSIX compliant operating system platforms on which Java can be ported. The commercial BICsuite enterprise job scheduling system is available in addition to Linux already for Windows and Solaris. schedulix is fully compatible with the BICsuite BASIC Edition. This means users get a binary release of royalty- free available. Operation of schedulix in a mixed Linux, UNIX and Windows environment is possible without additional cost to the user.
