Schladming Tauern

The Schladming Tauern are a subgroup of the Central Alps in the Eastern Alps. Together with the Radstadt Tauern, the Rottenmanner and Wölzer Tauern and the Seckauer Tauern form the Schladming Tauern mountains, the large group of Lower Tauern. The mountain range is located in Austria in the federal states of Salzburg and Styria. The highest point is 2,862 m Hochgolling.

Location

The Schladming Tauern located in the central part of the Low Tauern between the Sölkpass the east and the Tauernpasshöhe in the West. It is named after the place in Schladming Enns Valley.

Adjacent Mountain Ranges

The Schladming Tauern adjoin the following other mountain groups in the Alps:

  • Rottenmanner and Wölzer Tauern (to the east )
  • Nock ( in the south)
  • Radstadt Tauern ( to the west)
  • Salzburg Slate Alps ( in the northwest)
  • Dachstein Mountains ( to the north)

Boundary

The borders by Alpine Club classification of the Eastern Alps (AVE ): Enns from Radstadt to confluence Großsölkbach - Großsölkbach - Sölk passport - Katschbach to confluence with the River Mur - Mur to top Baierdorf - Neuseß - Mauterndorf - Southern Taurachtal - Northern Taurachtal - Radstadt.

Klafferkessel

In the nature reserve Klafferkessel, a former glacier floor, there are about 30 mountain lakes. The Klafferkessel itself consists of two interlocking Karen with a plethora partially icy lakes in different sizes ( the largest being the Lower Klaffersee, the rough mountain lake and the Upper Klaffersee ), in between rocks, jagged rocks and meadow. About the Klafferkessel the perched boulder of grasping the stone. By Klafferkessel the way from the Gollinghütte leads to Preintalerhütte.
