Schleicher ASK 13

The Schleicher ASK 13 is a two-seater glider in composite construction as a means ceiling design with cross-tail for training and flight training performance. Your glider Index is 78

History

The ASK 13 was developed as a successor to the hugely successful K 7 and built by Schleicher in 618 copies by 1980, a further 80 machines were produced until 1992 under license.

On April 25 In 1972, Dr. Siegfried Baumgartl and Walter Schewe from Luftsportverein Dinslaken eV with a flight over 714 km from the airfield Schwarze Heide to Angers in France a world record for doubles in the target flying at.

Construction

The ASK 13 is designed as a mid-wing monoplane. The hull consists of a fabric-covered steel tube construction and has, in contrast to K 7 a sprung chassis in combination with a skid or a nose wheel. The plexiglass canopy is one piece and also allows the rear seat is an excellent all-round visibility. Meanwhile, there are the ASK 13 with hood open (MBB SG Augsburg). Wings and tail are made in wood construction, the horizontal stabilizer is mounted with two bolts and a screw ahead of the fin to the fuselage. The negative swept wing similar to that of K 7, but has a changed profile of lesser thickness in the middle and outer area, namely inside a mixed profile of Gö 535 and Gö 549 (thickness 16%), in the middle of the same profile (thickness 13, 4 %) and outside a GÖ 541 (thickness 11.3%). This could best glide ratio can be improved to 1:27 ( K 7 1:25 ). Apart from the usual focus coupling for winch launch ASK 13 also has a nose hook for aerotow. The focus clutch, however, is mounted on the left side of the fuselage.

Flight characteristics

The ASK 13 is extremely good-natured, but it is unlike her successor ASK 21 capable without additional lead ballast spin. Therefore, it is still used for the two-seater safety briefing in the training. The negative sweep allows a lower minimum speed.

Use

Although in the training today mainly its successor - the ASK 21 - is used, are still 264 copies of the ASK 13 in the training company of many gliding clubs and schools, usually together with the proven - and widespread - Exercise seaters K 8 and ka 6, which are the ASK 13 very similar in flight characteristics. Because of their good all-round visibility, the ASK 13 is also frequently used for guest flights.
