Schleicher ASW 15

The Schleicher ASW 15 is a building designed by Gerhard Waibel and from 1968 by Alexander Schleicher Glider sold in fiberglass construction with a 15 meter wingspan. It is a high-wing monoplane with cruciform tail and swing elevator.

In order to ensure better controllability, the rudder was enlarged to 11 cm upwards in the next version ASW 15B. Furthermore, in the ASW 15B sacks 90 kg of water ballast in the wings were provided.

The flight characteristics are generally be described as unproblematic. The focus clutch is arranged but offset laterally so that must be clearly kept the wind off and the aircraft towed to prevent an outbreak. This Ausbrechneigung at the start and the pendulum rudder require a briefing. The ASW 15 Flies otherwise very pleasant, with small rudder forces and increases also very good. In straight and level flight the angle of repose at higher speeds is much lower.

By the use of the balsa wood surfaces a single ASW 15 was affected by fungal attack after the ASW LTA had to be checked 15 to this attack. From the serial number 356, the balsa wood was replaced by plastic.

The ASW 15 flew initially in the standard class, but today in the Club Class.
