Schleinitz Range

The Schleinitz Mountains are a mountain range in northern and central part of the island of New Ireland, Papua New Guinea. The highest point of the mountain is 1481 m. The Schleinitz mountains are covered with dense rainforest. On the southwest coast of the mountain range rises steeply. The highest mountains are located just 4 km from the coastline. The landscape gradually falls off towards the north- east coast, to which there are plains with mangrove swamps. Like other mountain ranges in Papua New Guinea is home to a variety of rare species of flora and fauna.

The Schleinitz Mountains was named after the German Vice Admiral and the first Governor of the New Guinea Company in the later German colony of German New Guinea, George of Schleinitz.
