Schloss Feistritz (Ilz)

The Feistritzwerke castle is located a few kilometers north of Ilz in Eastern Styria.

History

1170 The Vicar of Vustriz ( Feistritzwerke ) was stopped alongside other Archbishop of Salzburg for delivery of certain tithes for Vorau. It is concluded that the castle, whose association the church - even then parish church - was, had already existed at that time.

Was built the forerunner of the castle, a manor, according to F. Posch after 1122 Hartwig Reid Ling, the (now community Großsteinbach ) was also the founder and namesake of adjacent (large) Hartmann village. During the Reformation the castle church lost its parish status.

After the extinction of Mindorfer 1648 rule came to the intermarried Barons / Count of Wildenstein and 1809 by selling to the Counts of Lamberg. A born here representatives of the latter family was Hugo Raimund Count von Lamberg. 1959 sold them their water lock on the Hamker family. Today the castle is privately inhabited.

Architectural History

The castle was probably a simple Turmhof in the 12th and 13th century, surrounded by a wall and a moat fed by the Feistritzwerke.

The Reifensteiner built yet the "house" to it; the Mindorfer built it in 1570 to something like this, as it stands today.

1605 devastated the Hajdús the castle and set it on fire. It has been restored and extended.

1890 boasted the Graz Archives Director J. von Zahn: A pearl in this series [ of the water castles ] is Feistritzwerke at Ilz that the fouling of the 14th century can be seen clearly up to the magnificent buildings of the 17th century in all its parts.

Possession

The rule Feistritzwerke was in 1532 with 102 subjects a medium-sized rule, the tax base was 186 pounds of pennies.

Set around the castle areas, Leithen, Tambach / Dambach and book mountain (all three now part of Ilz ), Upper Grien / Obgrün and Hainrich Village / Hainersdorf, were entirely or predominantly to the rule, as is the " enclave " consisting of Aichperg / Eichberg and Hochenegg.
