Castle rock with Schlossberg Tower

The castle Häring stone, also called Ebinger Castle Rock, is the residue of a hilltop castle on the castle rock above the valley of the Schmiecha approximately 1000 meters northeast of the town part of the city Ebingen Albstadt in Zollernalbkreis in Baden- Württemberg.

Geographical Location

The former castle Häring stone situated on a hill which is located northeast of Ebingen, opposite the Ochsenberg and the meal rocks at an altitude of 953 meters on the Schlossberg. Today's observation tower offers beautiful views of the Talgang and enjoy the weather even on the Swiss Alps.

History

The castle was built around 1100 by the Lords of Ebingen or the Lords of Häring stone and abandoned in the first half of the 13th century.

The former castle, now owned by the city Albstadt, decreed through a kidney-shaped nucleus Castle 17 by 28 meters and a double wall- trench system to the eastern side of the slope.

The name " Haring Stone " ( herring stone) comes from a parcel at the foot of Castle Rock, which is based on the noble family which is notably due from Haeringstein.

Current usage

According to archaeological excavations in 1881, a 24 meter high observation tower was built at the former site of the castle Haring Stone in 1889, which still towers above the city, Ebingen and is a landmark Ebingens. The viewpoint is reached by a footpath from the recreational area Waldheim Ebingen from. Just below the castle rock tower is the so-called witches' kitchen, a cave. In the years 1960/61, the spire of the city Ebingen has been redesigned. 1991-1993 the tower was completely renovated and re-plastered. The upper viewing platform located at an altitude of 972 m above sea level. NN, the lower ring is at 960.22 m above sea level. NN.
