Schmarloh

The Schmarloh is a ridge in the southern heath in the east of Lower Saxony, which extends from the valley of the Wiehe between Great Oesingen and Hohne to the northwest to the valleys of Lutter and lower Laughed between Marwede and Lachendorf. The Northeast in large Oesingen located in Gifhorn, otherwise the ridge lies completely in the district of Celle. Highest elevation is 78 m above sea level. Originally Schmarloh is a resulting in Drenthe II period of the ice age about 230,000 years ago the terminal moraine. Schmarloh is also a district of the town of Gross Oesingen.

Economy

In addition to the traditional use by agriculture and forestry part of the Schmarloh north of Hohne is used for the production of wind energy. A long pros and cons to the originally very large planned wind farm in the media of Schmarloh gained through regional awareness. 2004, a smaller project of 13 wind turbines has been applied and tested. These are now built and in operation.
