Schmidt (singer)
Schmidt (born 14 February 1990 in Koblenz; civil Elisa Schmidt), also written SCHMIDT, is a German pop and jazz musician.
Life
Schmidt grew up as the daughter of an entrepreneur with her older brother in Koblenz. At the age of 16, she went to boarding school Hurtwood House music in South London, where she began to write songs in English. At 17, she spent a year in the U.S. before they graduated from high school in Munich. She had to be the firm desire musician as a child and took advantage of every opportunity to be on stage. In June 2010, she signed a contract with the major label Warner Music.
Schmidt lives in Berlin and London.
Career
In autumn 2010, Elisa Schmidt learned through contact her record company the London producers and songwriter Guy Chambers know. Originally a collaboration for a song was only planned in the following months, she wrote together with Chambers but also all other songs for their debut album Femme Schmidt. For Schmidt Chambers also resigned from his adopted pursuant to Robbie Williams' album Escapology decision not to stand as a producer for full album productions.
During the phase of music production in London Schmidt played, among others, live at Ronnie Scott 's Jazz Club, Guy Chambers ' event series Orgasmatron - 21st Century theater and toured with the house band at Ronnie Scott. The musical director of the club, James Pearson, can be heard as a pianist on their debut album.
In autumn 2011, Schmidt Above their EP Sin City, which also includes a cover version of Venus in Furs by The Velvet Underground and Nico in addition to their own songs published. To the theme song of the EP, Sin City, she initiated a film of the same price at which 85 filmmakers from 27 countries participated; among the jurors, among others Paul Verhoeven and Volker Schlöndorff. During the same period SCHMIDT toured as support of Melanie C.
Elisa Schmidt does not just write songs for themselves, but also for other artists. So Ivy Quainoo published in March 2012 entitled Richest Girl on her debut album Ivy, in which Schmidt was co-author.
Schmidt scored on Germany and the UK, international attention. As part of the Musexpo 2012 they played in April and May 2012, four concerts in Los Angeles, among other things, on a manager's reception of Lady Gaga, Troy Carter. In the Film Festival in Cannes, she joined at the invitation of Bavaria on film.
18 May 2012 their debut album Femme Schmidt is published by Warner Music.
In November 2012, Schmidt was the opening act of Sir Elton arena tour in Australia. As part of this tour, they also appeared in the Australian TV show " The Morning Show " on Channel 7 as well as at various radio stations in Australia. Also still in November 2012 Schmidt appeared in Paris opening for Lionel Richie at the sold out Le Zenith.
To greater awareness Schmidt came through the New Year's Day 2013 broadcast Cologne scene illusory worlds in which her song with Robin Grubert, Heart Shaped Gun was used as theme music. It then came to the German single charts.
On January 18, 2013 Schmidt appeared onstage at Michalsky Stylenite the Berlin fashion designer Michael Michalsky. The performance was streamed live on the Internet and could be seen among others in the pages of FAZ.net, Bild.de and Vogue.de.
Music style
Guy Chambers called the Schmidt and created his style Pop Noir. She describes her music as a combination of cabaret, jazz and modern pop elements. As a personal influences she mentions, inter alia, Marlene Dietrich, Kurt Weill, Billie Holiday and Norah Jones.
Trivia
The artist name Schmidt was created during the production of their debut album in London. Guy Chambers and they had very inspiration of the Roaring Twenties from Germany, so Chambers have it sometime just called by their typical German surname.
The number 14 denotes Schmidt as their lucky number, which is why she wears a tattoo with the Roman numeral on her right wrist.
In German and British tabloid media speculated about an affair between Schmidt and the British actor Hugh Grant, they rejected this, however, and said that she was only friends with Grant.
