The Schönfließ railway station in Brandenburg is on the northern Berlin outer ring. The 1953 opened station is serviced passenger since 1961 by the S- Bahn Berlin until 1993 he was also maintenance of regional trains. On the west of the actual station located branch Schönfließ West begin two connecting curves to Berlin Northern Railway.

Location

The station was created about one kilometer north of the village Schönfließ. It is located at km 11.1 of section Karower Cross - Priort the Berlin outer ring north of Berlin. The area between the railway station and town has remained undeveloped.

History

With the German and Berlin sharing a powerful bypass possibility of West Berlin was necessary since the early 1950s. The Berlin outer ring was built, its northeastern part between Karower Cross and birch Werder went into operation in 1952. From 1953 the trains on internal traffic of the GDR were allowed ( with the exception of the Berlin S-Bahn ) no longer drive through West Berlin. Of the Berlin northern runway was affected. The trains used since the outer ring. Since there were hardly any checks between Eastern and Western part within the city of Berlin as before, and the trains were subjected to controls toward East Berlin. Schönfließ was from 1953, such a control station. On 4 October the same year, the station also went for public transport in operation.

After the construction of the Berlin Wall on 13 August 1961, the S-Bahn section between Oranienburg and Hohen Neuendorf was separated from the rest of the network. To connect this region back to Berlin's S - Bahn network, the track between Hohen Neuendorf and the Karower cross was equipped with electric rail in just 72 days of construction. The train on this section was on 19 November 1961 in operation. As a result, a separate two-track S- Bahn tracks written between Hohen Neuendorf and Schönfließ south of the outer ring with the new breakpoint mountain field, which was opened on 27 May 1962. The Schönfließ station and the section from there to the Karower Cross were still being used in the community operation between S- and long-distance train. West of the station was a transfer on which the S -Bahn trains crossed the remote tracks in the direction of Oranienburg. Also in 1962 came a second compound curve ( the so-called " long curve" ) of the remote tracks of the outer ring west of Schönfließ to Northern Railway in operation.

The Community operation caused operational bottlenecks. During a severe train crash between Schönfließ and the Karower Cross came on 18 December 1979, the driver of an S -Bahn train killed the messenger had ascended to a halt freight train. Seven people were injured. At the latest with the electrification of the mainline tracks of the outer ring with alternating current overhead line separating the S- and long-distance railway lines in the early 1980s was much needed. 1982, a separate S- platform in Schönfließ was put into operation, which was initially used only one track of the trains in the direction of Berlin. On September 2, 1984, the separation of S- and long-distance railway was completed, and the own S-Bahn track between Schönfließ and the Karower Cross went into operation. All S - Bahn trains stop since on its own platform; east of Schönfließ the new breakpoint mill -Mönchmühle was opened. In the same year the electrical equipment was added to the mainline tracks of the northeastern outer ring and thus in Schönfließ station on December 15.

Development after 1990

After the fall of the wall the locations north-west of Berlin were reconnected using a shorter path than the outer ring of the city. The already sparse regional transportation ended in 1993, dismantled the northern platform track later. For the S -Bahn to Oranienburg there since May 1992 again the shorter way over Frohnau. Nevertheless, the S -Bahn remained in this area in operation. Schönfließ is considered the railway station in the Berlin S- Bahn network with the least number of entry and exit. Given low ridership, there have been considerations to replace the transport by trains on the regional tracks, however, were not realized.

Passenger

In the first years after the start of passenger services on the Berlin outer ring is part of the passenger trains from the north ended already in Oranienburg, a part was performed via the outer ring to Berlin -Lichtenberg, partly Ostbahnhof. These trains stopped in Schönfließ. 1957 concerned the five pairs of trains to and from Berlin, which went on to Neubrandenburg, Stralsund. A special feature at that time was a pair of trains from Berlin, via the mountain lion, Neuruppin, Wittstock ( Dosse) and Meyenburg to Güstrow and Rostock drove. After construction of the wall of the passenger rail service from Oranienburg to Berlin was at the same time set the commissioning of the S -Bahn in this area on 19 November 1961. It reversed a few trains from various places like Nauen or Falkirk northwest of Berlin to Berlin -Lichtenberg, partly Ostbahnhof. Morning perverted since the 1960s until the early 1990s, five trains in Berlin via Schönfließ, in the afternoon, depending on the timetable year four or five trains back, on weekends the offer was limited to two pairs of trains. There was also a passenger in the evening from Schwerin to Berlin - Lichtenberg.

Quick and fast passenger trains had no scheduled traffic holding in Schönfließ, only to the construction of the Wall Control Stop. The only exception was the late 1980s, a D- train from Schwerin, who replaced the otherwise trains running at this time passenger train on Sunday evening.

After the wall came down the offer in regional traffic was rapidly thinned and 1993 all set.

After recording of the Berlin S- Bahn service Schönfließ was initially served hourly by S-Bahn from Oranienburg to Warschauer Straße. With the improvement of the infrastructure of the 20 -minute intervals was recorded on the track in 1962, which until the early 1980s, individual trips planned accounted for on the basis of route bottlenecks between Hohen Neuendorf, Schönfließ and Berlin- Blankenburg. In the 1970s and 1980s Schönfließ was served by the train group K between Berlin- Schönefeld airport and Oranienburg. With the introduction of the line numbers in the Berlin S -Bahn network in 1991, the line was given the designation S 10 In the wake of the resumption of the S-Bahn service on the direct route via Frohnau 1992, this line was to the section Birkenwerder - limited Schönefeld. The curve changed several times. Since 2004, the S 8 Birkenwerder (or Hohen Neuendorf ) wrong - Berlin- Grunau ( in rush hour traffic to Zeuthen ) about Schönfließ. The daytime usual 20 -minute intervals were thinned out in the evening traffic to an hour. The section between Blankenburg and Hohen Neuendorf is the only one in the Berlin S- Bahn network, which has no through traffic night on weekends.

Facilities

The station was built in the typical arrangement of the stations of the Berlin outer ring with two through tracks and two of them branching off to the outside platform tracks, which are connected via a pedestrian bridge. With the separation of S- and long-distance train in the early 1980s, a separate central platform for the train south was then built with two tracks, which can be reached from the footbridge by a passivation meter building. There was formerly the ticket office. The northern platform track of the remote web part has been dismantled, the southern one is still in operation. The northern part of the pedestrian bridge is closed. The terrain beyond the tracks can be reached via a railroad crossing west of the station platforms. In this case, it was one of the few beschrankten crossings both in the network of the Berlin S -Bahn and the Berlin outer ring.

At the entrance there are some bicycle parking spaces and a small parking lot. The train station is not connected to the bus.

At the railroad crossing is located since 1964 Switchboard of type GS II DR Apart from the railway station and the level crossing are controlled from there the branch Schönfließ West and the branch Arkenberge the S-Bahn. The branch Schönfließ West is located 1.7 km west of the station Schönfließ. Here begin two connecting curves of the mainline from the outer ring to the north. The S- Bahn line is single track east of the station, at the junction Arkenberge behind the breakpoint mill -Mönchmühle begins a renewed double-track section. The remains of the former transfer of the S-Bahn track towards Oranienburg on the remote tracks west of the station can be identified in the field.

Others

Also in Brandenburg is located on the railway line Eberswalde- Frankfurt ( Oder) of Schönfließ station village. He received the additional village long before commissioning of the station Schönfließ to distinguish it from up in 1945, Brandenburg Station Schönfließ bathroom, today Trzcińsko -Zdrój in Poland. For the Schönfließ station was no need for a name suffix.
