Location

The Schöpfl part of the flysch zone on the northern edge of the Alps. It forms a long, approximately towards the west southwest - running east-northeast ridge with a relatively steep northern flank and a more structured, shallower southern flank. The Schöpfl is mostly covered by deciduous forest. On its summit stands the Matra observatory, from which one if weather is both the highest mountains to the south of Lower Austria, the Schneeberg and the Rax, west to Oetscher, as can be seen to the Danube and to the north.
