Schwamendingen

Schwamendingenstrasse is a city district of the City of Zurich in Switzerland.

The formerly independent municipality Schwamendingenstrasse was incorporated in 1934 and today forms the county administrative Schwamendingenstrasse 12 is divided by the statistical office since 1971 in the three administrative units ( districts ) Schwamendingenstrasse center, Saatlen and Hirzenbach. Incorporation

Due to the construction boom in the 1950s, the population rose from an original 3000 relatively rapidly to 34,500 in 1966. The Roman Catholic Church is represented in Schwamendingenstrasse with the parish of St. Gallus:

  • The Church of St. Gallus was built between 1956-1957 by the architect Ferdinand Pfammatter and Walter Rieger. The church takes up the design of the airplane hangar at the nearby military airport in Dübendorf. Since 1990 the church has one of the largest church window in Switzerland, designed by the artist and the Capuchin Fra Roberto.

The Salvation Army Zurich North has at the Saatlenstrasse a community center that was created in 1997-1998 by the architects Jürg Bühler, Zurich.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints, which is among the Mormons, has a church on autumn walk center. This was created in the years 1965-1968 by the architect Hans B. Ringger, Basel. On 5 May 1968, the center of 13th President of the Church, Ezra Taft Benson was inaugurated.

Traffic

Schwamendingenstrasse is crossed by the motorway A1, operate on the day up to 120,000 cars and trucks. All Zurich Baseball clubs ( Challengers, Barracudas, Lions ) play their home games on the sports field Heerenschürli, which is the first Swiss Baseball field with the original masses since the revival in 2010.

  • Heinrich Bosshard, poet of Sempacherliedes (1836 ), lived and worked from 1834 to 1850 as a teacher in Schwamendingenstrasse
