Confines

Schwansen is bounded on the east by the Eckernförder Bay, to the west and north and by the Schlei. The boundary to the south is debatable. In John Mejers Maps of the Duchy of Schleswig from 1649 Kolholmer Au or Koseler Au is ( with an imaginary line from near Barkelsbys either to Eckernförder Lachsbach, for Möhlwischbach or former municipal boundary between Eckernförde and Borby out ) specified as the limit of Harde. According to this definition, however, are the towns of Kosel and Barkelsby that apply generally and historically belonging to Schwansen, almost exclusively outside of it, also a part of Gammelby. Today Eckernförder district Borby then belongs entirely ( former border Eckernförde ), partial ( Lachsbach limit) or not ( Möhlwischbach limit) to Schwansen. As far defined limit applies Schwansens the Osterwall, a portion of the Danevirke between the Windebyer Noor and Osterbek towards the loop when Fleckebyer district Götheby -Holm. The situation is similar Bronnmann which pulls the southern border of the loop from across the lake at Holmer Götheby - spar, then across the Great Lake and Schnaaper Windebyer Noor (from Schnaap ). After further delineation definitions as Eastwall - line or Bronnmann - line are all north of Eckernförder bay, the harbor and the Eckernförder Windebyer Noor parts of the city Eckernförde in Schwansen, further smaller communes of Fleckeby and Windeby. A further delineation definition is added to the demarcation of the former Risby Harde that is rather political than geographical in nature.
