The Schwarzwasserbach is an orographic left tributary of the upper Ems in North Rhine -Westphalia, Germany. It has a length of 6.0 km and is the first named body of water that is taken from the Ems to their origin.

River course

The Schwarzwasserbach arises in the east of Hövelhofer town center by a bifurcation from the springing in the Senne Kroll Bach. While the water of the brook flows through the Kroll Haustenbach and the lip into the Rhine, the water of the right side branching blackwater creek of the river Ems is supplied. The creek crosses Hovelhof after its formation centrally and reached west of the village, the wet meadow area Rengeringsbruch. Above this area the water flows on the right side to the springing 6.4 km long and in the nature reserve Moosheide Holte Bach. North of the Espeln Schwarzwasserbach finally flows into the Ems, making it officially the first named tributary.

Differences in the classification

The statement that it is the first Emszufluss the Schwarzwasserbach is not entirely clear. Through the official geodata material that is occupied as a fact. Other sources attribute this property, however, the Hallerbach, though it is a tributary of the Holte creek in these waters. Here the distinction is also not clear, as the two streams are also alternatively referred to as "Upper Hallerbach " or " Lower Hallerbach ". Also located at the bifurcation wooden information board called the Hallerbach than estuary waters of blackwater creek.

History and etymology

The course of the black water creek has shifted repeatedly in the course of the last centuries as a result of sand deposits, which is a not untypical of the Senne streams process. In the 17th century, used the water of the stream to feed the moat around the newly built hunting lodge. At that time, the care of the stream has been greatly neglected, caused by the sand deposits slowing the flow rate was the result. From the accumulated humus rich silt, the water was a dark color, which is derived the present name.

In the twenties of the 19th century there was in Hovelhof to a severe fever epidemic that killed hundreds of people died. Finally, we provided a link between the disease and the advanced silting up of the rivers located in the place - especially the black water stream - fixed, because their water was regularly used as drinking water. As a countermeasure, the creek was re-regulated and deepened; the formerly functioning water has been restored. The hoped-for success was one himself, the disease disappeared. This development brought the waters below, the term " health divide" one.

Environment

The water structure quality of the black water stream is currently in poor condition. It corresponds to the entire course of the structural grades VI and VII, and thus a strong or excessive damage. Within the Hövelhofer center of the state is very far from nature, here the water is passed through a pipeline.

The water quality is impaired, reasons for this include the introduction of rain water in the center of Hovelhof and the influence of the Holte brook whose water quality is impacted by the crossing of an industrial area.
