The Schweinfurt city railway station is a railway station of the Lower Franconian town of Schweinfurt east of the old town on the railway line Bamberg and Würzburg.
Vehicular importance
The station is now only served by regional services as the stop for regional trains. He was originally from 1852, the first railway station of the city and only Schweinfurt breakpoint on the railway line Bamberg and Würzburg. In 1893 he was added to the station Oberndorf -Schweinfurt, today's main train station, which soon occupied the central role in local rail services. The town's railway station has since been used primarily by rail passengers from the old town and the districts high-field, valleys and Deutschhof that the town's train station, as are much closer to the central station.
Infrastructure
Built in 1852-56 to plans by Gottfried of Neureuther reception building of Schweinfurt city railway station is located on the northern side of the track and stands with its extensions under monument protection. Since 1997, it houses the alternative culture Stattbahnhof, in which several associations have their headquarters. In the two former Warte-/Schalterhallen since concerts and other musical events take place.
The station has three platform tracks on which the passenger is settled. The main platform is no longer in use, covered the track bed. Between the two crossing tracks 1 and 2, a central platform has been created, a little more offset towards Bamberg than the old station platform where the trains of the relation Würzburg- Bamberg.
