Venue

After promotion to the 1st Basketball League, the High Towers needed a new game cities, as the venerable Werner Seelenbinder hall in Jena Lobeda West did not meet the requirements of the first league that calls for a capacity of 3,000 spectators.

As an interim solution, the JenArena was thought a lightweight hall for 3000 spectators, was built on the site of the former name of the sponsor PoM ( Planet of Motion). Directly opposite the new multi-purpose arena for sports, concerts, exhibitions, conferences should be more. arise. However, this construction project could not be realized because the city of Jena realized only after the approval of the construction that the relevant building permits are not available for a multi-function hall, but only for a pure sports hall. Because of these complications, the project was completed in May 2008.

As new approaches to other sites are being evaluated, with the aim by 2011 to build a multi-purpose hall in Jena. To get the basketball site until then, the plan was to extend until 2012 the planned 2 years operation period of lightweight hall ( JenArena ) because after descending into the new 2nd League ( Pro A ) was called for a minimum capacity of 1800 spectators. The operation was discontinued after a year, due to high operating costs, and reverted to the old home, the Werner Seelenbinder hall, back. After several improvements and the installation of additional grandstands around the field around to reach a capacity of 1500 spectators. The league changed the minimum capacity of 1500 spectators, so that Science City Jena was allowed to use the hall without special permits.

After the last game of the season 2009/2010 was Managing Director Lars Eberlein plans to issue hall known. The new JenArena is the old Werner Seelenbinder hall. You still want to play the start of construction in the hall and then dodge the construction again in the lightweight hall in order to be able to then play for the season 2012/2013 in a new / old hall with a capacity of 3,000 spectators. Thus, the association aims to lay the foundation to play the medium to long term again in the 1.Basketball Bundesliga ( BBL ).

From calendar year 2014, Science City Jena plays at the Sparkassen Arena on Burgaupark with 3000 spectators.
