Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research

The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (English Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research - SCAR ) is a committee of the International Council for Science ( ICSU ), was established on 28 June 1958.

This non-governmental organization coordinates the scientific activities in the area of Antarctica. The SCAR has, among other working groups in the fields of biology, geodesy, glaciology, meteorology, medicine, physics of the atmosphere and oceanography.

The SCAR Composite Gazetteer of also manages the Antarctica ( CGA), the internationally binding directory geographical names in Antarctica.

Every two years, exchanged experiences on the SCAR meetings and made ​​recommendations for future Antarctic research.
