Scientific Committee on Food

The Scientific Committee on Food (English Scientific Committee on Food - SCF) was established in 1974 by the European Community ( EC) and is now an institution of the EU. It advises the European Commission in relation to the protection of the health and safety of persons with any problems that might arise from the consumption of food, especially in terms of diet, hygiene and toxicological issues.

He is one of eight EU scientific committees and has been subject since 1997, the Directorate General for Health and Consumer Protection. In 2003, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA ) in Parma took over the duties of the SCF.
