Scionzier

Scionzier is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region. It is capital of the canton in the Arrondissement Scionzier Bonneville.

Geography

Scionzier located at about 504 m west of Cluses then, about 35 km southeast of the city of Geneva (air line). The village is located on the southern edge of the broad Arvetals on both sides of the river Foron you Reposoir, in the Savoy Alps at the northern foot of the Chaîne du Bargy (part of the Bornes Alps ), in Faucigny.

The area of ​​10.62 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the middle Arvetals. The northern boundary runs in the area of the flood plain of the Arve, which here flows in a wide Talniederung from east to west. From the flood plain, the municipality's area extends southward over the flood plain and the alluvial fan of the Foron you Reposoir which emerges from the Bornes Alps at Scionzier of a gorge-like valley. A steep forested slope of communal land extends to the limestone peaks of the Pointe de Nancy ( 1191 m) and on the eastern slopes of the Chaîne du Bargy. On the ridge of this mountain range is achieved with 1969 m the highest peak of Scionzier.

To Scionzier include the hamlet Miosinge (500 m) on the southern edge of the Arveebene and Neyrolles (720 m) on a ridge at the entrance to the Reposoir Valley. Neighboring communities of Scionzier are Thyez in the north, Cluses and Nancy- sur -Cluses in the east, Le Reposoir in the south and Marnaz in the West.

History

Scionzier is first mentioned in the 14th century. Already in the 18th century Scionzier has changed into a community with numerous sawmills, mills and chocolate factories, which derived their energy from the abundant water power of Foron you Reposoir and the Arve. In 1866 a significant change for the community Scionzier area was completed with the removal of Marnaz. Since 1906, the place is fully supplied with electricity.

Population

With 7503 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Scionzier one of the larger towns in the Haute-Savoie region.
