Scipione Rebiba

Scipione Rebiba (* 1504 in San Marco d' Alunzio; † July 23, 1577 in Rome) is the one cardinal, on the decline, most notably known succession lines ( Apostolic Succession ).

Life

Rebiba studied in Palermo, where he owned a canonry in the church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli, which, however, he soon renounced. Now, going to Rome, he belonged to the household of Cardinal Gian Pietro Caraffa, who was also Archbishop of Chieti. However, appointed titular bishop of Amyclae and Auxiliary Bishop of Chieti On March 16, 1541, he seems to continue to have resided in Rome, where we find him as Apostolic prothonotary. When his " patrons " Caraffa had become Archbishop of Naples in 1549, he sent Rebiba to where he served one year as a vicar and representative of the Archbishop. Since October 12, 1551 Bishop of Mottola, he was from May 5 to December 20, 1555 Governor of the city of Rome. After his patron Cardinal Caraffa was elected in 1555 to Pope Paul IV, has created this Rebiba in the consistory of December 20, 1555 cardinal, and appointed him January 24, 1556 Cardinal Priest of the titular church of Santa Pudenziana. Collected on April 13, 1556 Archbishop of Pisa ( Italy), he resigned this office on 19 June in 1560 and was appointed on the same day as Bishop of Troia, which he a few weeks later his nephew Prospero relinquished. As a cardinal, he joined July 2, 1565 on the titular church of Santa Anastasia. Shortly afterwards, Cardinal Rebiba of Pope Paul IV was appointed on December 8, 1565 to Titularpatriarchen of Constantinople Opel. After he was already on 7 October 1566 became cardinal priest of Sant'Angelo in Pescheria, he moved on July 3, 1570 again and has now Cardinal Priest of Santa Maria in Trastevere. Also a member of the Inquisition (now CDF ), he was born on April 8, 1573, Cardinal Bishop of Albano and on May 5, 1574, Cardinal Bishop of Sabina. His grave is in the church of San Silvestro nel Quirinale.
