Scotland Office

The Scotland Office (English: Scotland Office, Gaelic: An Oifis Albannach ) is a person responsible for Scotland Branch of the British government expanded with locations in Dover House, Whitehall, London and Melville Crescent, Edinburgh. Head of the office is the Scotland minister ( Secretary of State for Scotland).

The Scotland Office was founded in 1885 by the British Prime Minister Lord Salisbury. The first director ( Secretary for Scotland ) of the named as The Scottish Office Scotland Office was Charles Henry Gordon - Lennox, 6th Duke of Richmond. Since 1892, the head of the Scottish Office was a member of the British Cabinet. Over the decades, the Scotland Office was able to expand its meaning and also developed expertise in the economic sphere. In 1997, the people of Scotland voted overwhelmingly for a private Scottish Parliament, which should be equipped with limited powers within the United Kingdom. Many tasks of Scotland minister were therefore transferred to the then newly established Office of the First Minister of Scotland and the Scotland Office officially renamed Scotland Office 1999. The Scotland minister is also a member of the British Cabinet. The Scotland Office now serves as a link between Her Majesty 's Government in London and the Scottish Executive.
