Scott Quinnell

Leon Scott Quinnell ( born August 20, 1972 in Morriston, Swansea ) is a former Welsh rugby union player who was used as a Number Eight. He was captain of the Welsh national team, and participated in two tours of the British and Irish Lions. For two years he was also active as a rugby league player.

Quinnell joined at the Llanelli RFC in 1990 and played 146 games in four years, where he put 32 attempts. In 1994 he left the club and rugby union and joined the Wigan Warriors and thus into the Rugby League code. It was in this variant of rugby international. He decided in 1997 for a return to rugby union and was obliged by Richmond FC. After one season there, he returned to Llanelli. 2003 in Wales founded regional teams, so he moved to the Scarlets.

In 1993, his international debut for Wales Quinnell against Canada in Cardiff. His last international match in 2002, he played well against the Canadians. During his national team career, he came to 52 missions in which he laid eleven attempts. Seven times he was captain of the Welsh selection. 1997 and 2001 he was nominated for the tour of the British and Irish Lions. On his second tour he came in all three matches against Australia for use.

In November 2004, Quinnell announced to want to end his career. At the end of the season 2004/ 05 he played his last game as a professional. Since end of his career he has been involved in numerous projects for the promotion of children and young people. Scott Quinell is the son of Derek Quinnell, also a former national rugby player. His uncle is the legendary Barry John. He is married and has three children. His two brothers Craig and Gavin are also active rugby player. Since end of his career he worked as an expert for Sky.
