The advantage of good climbing trees is that the cats do not use the normal home furniture for playing and scratching. Thus, a climbing tree quickly pays. The scratching post should be at least as large and of a quality that an adult cat can stretch out from the ground at least on one side of the trunk unhindered full length of it. Even better is an almost floor to ceiling model with several lounging areas that the cat provides undisturbed retreat and additional sleeping.

Also important is a high stability of the climbing tree. With unstable trees cats do not move much. The more stable the tree, the more often it is used. The stability of a scratch tree depends on both the thickness of the logs, as well as the quality of the screwed connections with each other. A ceiling attachment provides additional stability.
