Scribes (software)

Scribes is a text editor for programmers who work under GNOME. Scribes used a simple surface which is to put the focus on usability. Scribe supports syntax highlighting, word completion, auto-complete pair of characters, smart indenting as well as bookmarks and templates.

It is licensed as free software under the terms of the GNU General Public License ( GPL).

In addition to local files that can be loaded either from a menu or by drag and drop in the editor, it is also possible to remote files, including FTP, SFTP, SSH, Samba or WebDAV to access these remote and directly on the space edit it.

Scribe offers the user the ability to create templates that can be inserted with a trigger selected by the user in the current document. The trigger can be any combination of characters can be selected by the user. If this combination is entered, it is automatically recognized by Scribes as a trigger. In the editor, the trigger is marked accordingly and used by pressing the Tab key on the keyboard of the user.

The Version 0.4, which currently is still in development, among others, includes a review of the entire program. It is developers a new API with which extensions can be more easily integrated into the program.
