Scrub plane

The roughing or Schropphobel is a hand tool for machining of wood. It is used to " roughing ", ie removing quite thick shavings for the first smoothing especially raw-sawed timber or for reducing the thickness of a workpiece. When working with the scrub plane is often employs the technique of so-called Zwerchens, when the planer for planing is performed not parallel to the longitudinal fiber direction, but more or less inclined to this.

Since a large thickness of the removed wood shavings with an ordinary, Right Angle curled Paodao the chips would have to be torn out at the two iron flanks downright with great force, the scrub plane has a rounded (segment curved ) edge. This cuts out cleaner and circular segment with less effort, thin at the edges of the chips.
