Scutching

The swing is an important part of the natural fiber processing to clean the fibers of wood residues ( shives ) after crushing.

Technology

Simple swing composed of an upright board with one foot. The chair took with his left hand a handful of flax and put it on the top edge of the board so that half the length of the flax on the front side of the board hanging free. With his right hand he led the resonant wood, a flat on the edge of something sharpened board, and then struck out the remains of the woody parts. In addition, vibrating machines were used, where multiple blades radially sit with elastic stems on a rotation axis and a vibrating floor, above which the fiber bundle is held over emphasize.

Modern fiber processing machines also build on the traditional processes, but use mechanical pulping lines in which the breaking wings and hackles are implemented mechanically in suitable steps. This so-called swinging turbines are used.
