The helmet herb ( Scutellaria ) are a genus of the mint family ( Lamiaceae).

Description

Scutellaria species are annual or perennial herbaceous plants. The growth heights vary depending on the type of 5 centimeters to 1 meter. Some species are partially lignified; some are aquatic plants. The stem is square in cross section. The leaves are undivided or pinnatifid.

In terminal or lateral, racemose inflorescences aged men or many flowers are borne. The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic with a double perianth. The cup is Roehrig, on the calyx sits a shield -shaped extension, the name of the " helmet herbs" brought the genre. The corollas are divided into upper and lower lip. Of the four stamens, the front two are the longer and lower than the upper lip. The stylus is subulate and at the top equal to two parts. The nutlets are ovoid to spherical.
