SD Crvena Zvezda

Red Star (full official name in Serbian: СД Црвена звезда or Спортско друштво Црвена звезда, SD Crvena Zvezda or Sportsko društvo Crvena Zvezda; German: Community Sports Red Star ) - in German-speaking countries as Red Star Belgrade known - is next to Partizan a of the two peaks sports clubs in the Serbian capital Belgrade. Founded on March 4, 1945, has Red Star Belgrade today sports clubs in 25 different sports. Especially famous is the club for its football team, basketball team, water polo team handball team and volleyball team. History

The club was founded on 4 March 1945 under the name Youth Community of physical culture with seven sports departments (chess, athletics, basketball, football, swimming, rowing and volleyball). On 12 October 1946, the club merged with the sports club student. 1948, the individual departments were transformed into independent associations, which act autonomously since 1949. The umbrella organization was renamed the star in the wake of the split in SD Red.

Achievements

The greatest success of the sports club are:

  • Winning the European Cup of Champions 1990/91, the World Cup in 1991, as well as reaching the UEFA Cup Final in 1979 in men's soccer
  • Winning the European Cup Winners' Cup in men's basketball in 1975 and reaching the finals in 1972 and 1975
