Sea mink

The Seenerz or Seemink ( macrodon Neovison, formerly Mustela macrodon ) is an extinct carnivore species out of the marten family ( Mustelidae ). He lived at the North American Atlantic coast and is extinct in the 19th century due to excessive hunting.

The Seenerz resembled the closely related American Mink in physique, but was significantly greater. However, there are no complete surviving copies, but only reports and bone fragments so that accurate information is difficult. The head -body length is estimated to be 66 centimeters, for which there was another around 25 centimeters long tail. The coat was rough and redder than that of the American mink.

The distribution area of the lakes ore stretched along the Atlantic coast of New England and southeastern Canada, ranging from Massachusetts to New Brunswick. Its habitat were rocky coastline. Seenerze were probably nocturnal loner, the day retreated under construction or in rock crevices. The food was probably mainly of fish and crabs.

Because these animals were larger than the American mink, fur hunting was effective and brought more profit. This became their undoing. Hunters were dogs after the animals are looking for and then dug them out or burned incense from the burrows. In the second half of the 19th century they became extinct, the last specimen to have been killed in 1894 in New Brunswick. Its distribution area was occupied in the wake of the American mink.
