Chaunacops coloratus

The Seekröten ( Chaunacidae ) are a family of the order Armflosser ( Lophiiformes ). They live in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Ocean via the continental slopes.

Features

The animals have a soft body with small, prickly scales. The large mouth is directed upwards. The teeth are small. The first ray of the dorsal fin is transformed to "Angel" ( Illicum ), additional hard jets are not present. The anal fin has five to seven soft rays. The small, oval gill openings behind the pelvic fins approach.

Seekröten are colored pink to deep orange-red. The fish are 7-40 inches long. There are 21 species in two genera. The genus Chaunax lives at depths of 100 to 600 meters. Chaunacops live below 1000 meters.
