Séamus Dolan

Séamus Dolan ( born December 10, 1914 in Gubaveeney, Blacklion, County Cavan, † 10 August, 2010 Deramfield, Milltown, Belturbet, County Cavan ) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician.

Biography

Dolan was originally a farmer and later worked as a teacher. After he unsuccessfully stood as a candidate in the constituency of Cavan in 1954 and 1957, he was elected in this constituency in 1961, a member of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ). In 1965 he suffered a defeat, however, and retired from the House of Commons from.

Instead, however, he was a member of the Senate ( Seanad Eireann ) and represented in this for a legislative period to 1969, the interest group of the working shaft, the so-called Labour Panel. In 1969, he opted not to run again for the Senate and failed the other hand, with its new candidates in the constituency of Cavan for a seat in the House in the elections in 1969 and 1973.

In 1973 he was for Fianna Fáil as a representative of the workers, however, was member of the Senate and belonged to this until 1982.

During this time he was on 27 October 1977 to October 7, 1981 Cathaoirleach and therefore President of the Senate and after October 9, 1981 to April 20, 1982 Vice- President of the Senate ( Leas Cathaoirleach - ).

At the time of his death Séamus Dolan was the oldest former member of Parliament.
