Séamus Kirk

Séamus Kirk ( born April 26, 1945 in Keith Drum, County Louth ) is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician.

Biography

Kirk, who is by profession a farmer, was elected in 1982 for the first time as a member of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ) and is representing six elections since the constituency of Louth.

After the election victory of Fianna Fáil in the general election in 1987 he was appointed Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Taoiseach (Prime Minister ) Charles J. Haughey on 10 March 1987, held that office a " junior minister " to the end of Haugheys term on 11. February 1992. During this time fell last also of horticulture in its remit.

Between 10 December 1997 and 2002 he was chairman of the House Committee on European Affairs.

October 13, 2009 to 9 March 2011, he was the successor of the account controversial expense claims retired John O'Donoghue President ( Ceann Comhairle ) of the lower house.
