Seán Treacy (politician)

Seán Treacy ( born September 23, 1923) is an Irish politician of the Irish Labour Party and former Chairman ( Ceann Comhairle ) of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish Parliament.

Biography

Treacy, who was originally a factory worker in the shoe and boot industry, began his political career in 1961 when he was first elected as a candidate of the Irish Labour Party in the Dáil Éireann. There he represented for 36 years until 1997, the interests of the constituency of Tipperary South.

After the election in 1973 to the 19th Dáil Éireann, he was on 14 March in1973 whose chairman ( Ceann Comhairle ). This office he held until May 25, 1977.
