Search neutrality

Search neutrality is a term for the neutral functioning of search engines on the Internet. Analogous to the net neutrality it means that search engine (which are the main sources of information and at the same time constitute the basis of navigation on the Internet) to certain rules and principles must hold.

However, the concept as such is not clearly defined and is being actively discussed as opposed to net neutrality by few.

Violation of search neutrality

The case Foundem has brought the issue of search neutrality for the first time in the focus of the general public. This case is now even being examined by the Directorate General for Competition of the European Commission.
