SEAT 1200 Sport

Seat 1200 Sport Coupe

The Seat 1200 Sport Coupe is a two-door coupe of the lower middle class. The front wheel drive car was, unlike this time at Seat usual, not designed for a model of the former parent company Fiat, but was a self-development.

History

With its launch in the spring of 1975 he received the four-cylinder in-line engine of the Seat 124 with a displacement of 1197 cc, but the power was increased by 49 kW/67 hp to twin carburettors. With these values, the 2 2- seater ran up to 160 km / h.

The 1200 Sport Coupe was significantly less than the five years earlier appeared Seat 124 Sport Coupe. Peculiarity in the design was the always black plastic front that framed headlights and grille and the nickname " Boca Negra " ( " black mouth " ) in Spain was responsible. The first series of the 1200 Sport was based on the Fiat 127 ( floor pan, transmission, suspension ). The originally equipped with timing chain Fiat 124 OHV engines were rebuilt by Seat on timing belt.

In 1977, the Seat 1430 Sport Coupe with the same body, but underbody, suspension and gearbox of the Fiat 128, the engine of the Seat in 1430 reinforced version ( 1438 cc and 56.5 kW/77 hp) now had a carburetor. The same combination used in the engine and transmission from the model 128 Seat and Seat Ronda. The trunk could be opened by cable operated from the driver's seat

The 1430 Sport Coupe was introduced as the first Seat model from the importer Walter Hagen to Germany.

Beginning of 1980, the production of both vehicles that Europe had only moderate success, set without successors. As the successor model, the concept car Seat Bocanegra was built on the basis of the Seat Ibiza 4th generation in 1000 copies in 2010.
