Seat Altea (2004-2009)

The Seat Altea is a car model of the Volkswagen Group owned Spanish car manufacturer Seat. It is a compact MPV on the platform PQ35 (A5 ) of the Volkswagen Group, which is also used for example for the VW Golf V, VW Touran, Audi TT or the Škoda Octavia. A special detail of Altea are the opposite to each other wipers that in the resting position behind shielding around the A-pillars.

Development and presentation

The Seat Altea was first introduced to the public in 2003 as a prototype. On the European Motor Show in Brussels in 2003 was the then SEAT design chief, Walter de Silva, the Design Award of the Association of European designers in the category of concept vehicles for the Altea prototype. With the Altea future design characteristics of Seat models were unveiled to the public. This includes the unmistakable front end with the lynx eyes and large grille, which contains the Seat logo and is lined with chrome. Also included are the front spoiler beginning, rising above the fenders side lines representing the concept SEAT - to bring auto emoción expressed. After the presentation of the production model at the Geneva Motor Show in 2004, which largely corresponded to the concept vehicle, the Seat Altea received the award "red dot: best of the best " in the category Transport for outstanding design quality.

Origin of the name

Like many of the car models of Seat refers to the name of a Spanish city. Altea is located on the Costa Blanca about 50 km northeast of Alicante and has about 21,000 inhabitants.

Care and model variants

Altea FR (since 2005)

At the IAA 2005, a sporty version of the Altea Altea FR name was presented as a concept study. In February 2006, the production version came with a petrol engine and 147 kW or a diesel engine with 125 kW on the market. The gasoline engine is a 2.0 - liter turbocharged direct injection ( TFSI ) which also comes in the VW Golf GTI and Seat Leon FR used. The 2.0 -liter TDI engine in turn is also the VW Golf GT use. External features of the FR have a dual exhaust with 70 -millimeter pipes, 17- inch alloy wheels with tires 225/ 45 as well as optionally available bi-xenon headlights and 18- inch alloy wheels.

Altea XL (since 2006)

A prolonged by 18.7 inches version of the Altea called Altea XL was presented in September 2006 at the Mondial de l'Automobile. With gasoline engines between 75 kW ( 102 hp ) and 118 kW (160 hp) and TDI diesel engines with pump nozzle direct injection of 77 kW (105 hp) to 125 kW ( 170 hp) was introduced in November 2006 on the German market. Also, the Altea XL benefited in the spring of 2009, full of the optical and technical innovations as part of the facelift.

Altea Freetrack (since 2007)

The based on the XL version Freetrack was presented as SUV concept car in 2007. Facelift

Since early 2009, the Altea in all variants with slightly different body parts ( rear window extends to the edge of the tailgate, slightly modified rear lights, modified front bumper, mirrors higher ) and a revised interior offered. For example, the dashboard was redesigned and complemented by a white instrument lighting and a redesigned steering wheel and higher quality plastics.

Even the engine range has been changed. Among other things, the 2.0 - liter naturally aspirated engine was ( 110 kW / 150 PS and last only with gear machine available) removed from the program and by the 1.8 -liter turbo version (TSI ) with 118 kW / 160 PS, optionally in conjunction with a DSG gearbox replaced.

As another unit and the smaller 1.4-liter TSI was added ( with 92kW / 125 bhp). As diesel engines are the two 2.0-liter common-rail engines of the VW Group with 103 kW / 140 PS and 125 kW / 170 hp on offer.

In early summer 2010, the 1.2-liter TSI engine with an output of 77 kW/105 hp and 6-speed manual gearbox was introduced, which the non- Euro 5 -ready 1.6 engine with 75 kW/102 PS replaced. This is equipped in Germany as Ecomotive with start - stop system and recuperation, in other countries such as Austria without.
