Sting heads 13.5 to 108 cm long and have a stocky, laterally flattened body. The head is normally occupied by bony ridges and spines, the Vorkiemendeckel serrate, similar to the Sägebarschen ( Serranidae ).
Sting heads are usually viviparous.
